Set on the serene southern corridor of the town and on the edge of the waters of the Black Bayou, the Emmett Till National Park & Nature Trail is another symbol of the collaborative efforts of local residents, the Glendora ‘s Community Development Corporation & Yazoo Mississippi Delta Levee Board (www.ymdlb.org).

This development project will be the first ever recreational area in the West Tallahatchie County district. Once complete, the park will feature such outdoor activities as:

  • Family recreation and picnic space
  • Youth playground areas
  • Rustic campgrounds
  • An outdoor concert pavilion
  • The Emmett Till Civil Rights Nature Trail, and
  • The Glendora Garden Club “Adopt-a-Tree” Program.

The park will play host to a number of outdoor festivals, special events and concerts, including the Emmett Till Memorial Concert each September and the Annual "Sonny Boy" Williamson Day the first weekend in December of each year.

The Emmett Till Concert is a major annual fund-raising event designed raise scholarships funds to support college tuition and fee needs of aspiring Glendora youth. This concert is planned to precede the M.A.C.E. Blues & Heritage Festival in Greenville , MS , which is held annually during the 3rd weekend in September. It will also precede Glendora ‘s Annual Emmett Till Memorial Day, a regional commemoration marking the end of the Till murder trial that received global attention.

Sonny Boy’s Day will feature a revived annual Blues harmonica competition, a post-Thanksgiving Black Bayou BBQ Cook-off competition, a Glendora Motorcycle & Auto Club show, live music entertainment, and other exciting youth and adult games and activities.
