The Johnny B. Thomas Adult Education Center will expand its services by targeting adult learners in Glendora committed to life-long learning, the expansion of their knowledge base, and the perfection of selected marketable skills. The adult education program for Glendora ‘s residents will provide training, educational and employment opportunities for members of the community that may not normally have access to other quality continuing education initiatives in the Delta. Components of this program will include, but are not limited to, basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills. Furthermore, the program will provide the opportunity for General Educational Development (GED) completion to enhance the job readiness and competitiveness of Glendora ‘s residents the regional labor market, particularly in technology-oriented fields of employment. Participants that complete Glendora ‘s new Introduction to Computer Literacy course requirements will qualify to receive a new desk-top computer with high-speed broadband internet connections for their homes.

The main cyber lab, which will be housed in the technology center of the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center , (link to ETHIC narrative) will serve as the primary site for training and computer access. In addition, adults will have access to the Alec Rice Miller “Sonny Boy” Williamson Memorial Blues & Cyber Café (link to Sonny Boy café narrative) to conduct research and explore the Blues music and history, civil and human rights issues, and other cultural inquiries.
